If you are experiencing issues with the VPN then

  • flush the database and restart
  • disable the use of VPN in options and restart again

The movies list should now load properly

@neitsab That makes sense, thank you. @Maintainers: You can remove the update-desktop-database from install file, as that is now handled by pacman hooks.

@goetzc No. Make a judgment for yourself by comparing the tone in the link you mentioned and the one from https://www.reddit.com/r/PopCornTime/comments/4bbxw4/popcorn_time_faq/, and the linked https://www.reddit.com/r/PopCornTime/comments/47o4bz/is_there_any_truth_to_the_guy_who_claims_the/d0fpicf. The one which tries the hardest to convince, and does so by fat-fingering and calling out a conspiracy hardly ever is the right one...

Which are the news with this? Is this version controlled by the MPAA, has it malware, it it a honeypot to track users? Or are those the other ones? How can we know? There is this reddit thread with claims that this version is untrustful, and better use the other one. https://www.reddit.com/r/PopcornTimeCE/comments/46acve/warning_popcorntimech_owned_by_mpaa_to_track/ Maybe that version is untrustful. Who knows...

@314eter Ah thanks, hadn't thought about that! I'll keep an eye upstream then. Cheers

The pkgrel bump is to force an update. The release version is still 0.3.9, but there are frequent changes.

Hi 314eter, what's the reason for the pkgrel bump (this commit https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/commit/?h=popcorntime-bin&id=15eb232ed54452a272c79a7c0dbf0dbefa05a0d9)?

This is the same fork (same github, twitter and private keys) as the one that was called popcortime on aur until it was shut down. And popcorntime.ag took the name Popcorntime CE when it already existed, because they wanted to be confused with the popular community edition. I think this is the least confusing name, unless there are better ideas. Popcorntime-sh would only be good until they change their domain name.

Beyond the war between popcorntime.ag and popcorntime.sh, one thing is certain: they are ALL forks. Which means that, to be honest, no package should keep the old name "popcorntime". The guys from popcorntime.ag, whether they are right about popcorntime.sh and MPAA or not, did one good thing: they changed the name of their package (their version is called “PopcornTime CE”). I would propose to rename this AUR package as well – something like “popcorntime-sh”. I really think that keeping the name “just popcorntime” is misleading and should be avoided, at least here on AUR. --grufo
