It turns out hardening-wrapper is now deprecated because the clang package in Arch has been modified to use SSP and PIE by default.
https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/commit/trunk?h=packages/llvm&id=1d5568f96e56efb2186b3ae081488e1e5a509397
https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/6n5tkp/arch_now_enables_pie_and_ssp_by_default_in_gcc/
I don't know what changes the engine needs for it to compile with PIE, so I added "no-pie" flags to the compile/linker which got it building.

" Have any more information on your system ? "
Arch x64 fully update ... many 32bits lib from multilib repo installed
(for steam)
what info do you need ?
Kerrex commented on 2017-07-17 07:08 (UTC)
I confirm that hardening-wrapper is uninstalled here

@acerix I'm getting the issue too, and don't have hardening-wrapper installed.
zerophase commented on 2017-07-16 21:29 (UTC)
I didn't have any issues with that when I compiled 4.16.2. Have any more information on your system? Are you sure you have enough space to compile Unreal?
Other than that it looks like it could involves a shared library trying to use a static library. If it's an Arch specific issue it might have something to do with the update to makepkg a few days ago.
I'd definitely report the issue to Epic maybe they could provide more help.

@juancarlospaco this is easily done on your own system, not in a PKGBUILD, given that building packages runs as root:
Permission issues like this are already mentioned on the UE Arch wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unreal_Engine_4#Installing_from_the_AUR
This is a user system problem; I already did what I could without needing users to do the above by giving the
777
permissions. If it still gives you trouble, you'll have to use the example to solve it or change the install location to somewhere you have user permissions by default (as I cannot do this for you).zerophase commented on 2021-05-27 08:15 (UTC) (edited on 2021-05-30 08:41 (UTC) by zerophase)
Will update to 5.0 when it is released.
