@Ashark Thanks for your help and advice, I really appreciate it. The automatic downloader is very interesting. I'll take a closer look. With the next update, which I will release soon, we will switch from xorriso to bsdtar. Thanks for that.

I have completely reworked pkgbuild so it corresponds official installer: https://gist.github.com/Ashark/a194db36c8acd53f3cff496b617628fb There are several things remaining that I want to improve:
-
Check dependencies list
-
Instead of setting 777 permissions, chgrp to users group.
-
Maybe add WM_CLASS to desktop file

I am trying to install Davinci-Resolve on Manjaro Cinamon; I downloaded the zip file, and installed with no errors. But when I try to run the application, I get the following;

@eschwartz, of course experienced AUR users know how to handle the source file, experienced ones mind you. I assume that we are all good people and would like to make the installation easier for inexperienced users. These are the countless comments a la "Where should I put the source file? Well, in my case it works great. I download the source into the ~/Downloads directory, start the installation and that's it. As already mentioned, the installation file only contains the original code from the software vendor. Your comment would be much more constructive if it contained real tips or examples. But anyway, thank you very much and I will do my best to improve everything. If you happen to want to provide constructive help, please let me know and I will send you the original installation files. I am sure you will do it much better.
eschwartz commented on 2019-01-22 20:30 (UTC)
This package is severely messed up: witness its use of $pkgdir for symlinking source files:
The so-called "# Trying to make the user's life easier ;o)" step completely misunderstands every last aspect of how makepkg works, and to add insult to injury, it simply will not work under any conditions as $pkgdir does not exist at the time of use. You are testing to find out whether the file exists in / and if it doesn't but does exist in ~/Downloads then you execute a malformed ln command with only one argument.
Also the newly added install file is so outrageous I wanted to delete the package on the spot until I realized it is not actually being used.
@Ashark,
But that is no rationale for removing source=() altogether. AUR users are expected to know how to acquire source files for proprietary paywalled software on their own, doing it in prepare() is not right.

@ShayBox did you reboot after installing? The app can be started from everywhere after restart. But the .desktop file needs to be edited so you can add it to favorites in Gnome or Latte dock etc.
deezid commented on 2019-01-19 12:20 (UTC)
@Ashark. Thanks for the video. You have to open Resolve to reproduce the problem. It appears in Docks like Gnome dock or Latte when you pin the program. But the fix is easy.
Had to do the same with Blender-git (also contacting the maintainer atm and also easy fix). Got the fix from a nativefier reddit, but apparently works with all other apps as well ;)

@deezid - I cannot reproduce. See https://youtu.be/0dsKexcZx6w
