I will not update (for now) to the latest version 7.3.6.9326 because it crashes continuously for me.

stronnag commented on 2022-06-18 17:03 (UTC)

Thanks, unfortunate timing then.

For reference, with Gnome shell / wayland I need to

unset QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
unset QT_QPA_PLATFORM

to avoid

Google Earth has caught signal 6.

✔ NOTE The "Free" Google Earth has been dropped: https://support.google.com/earth/answer/168344?hl=en

All future updates go to Google Earth Pro (also free): https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/google-earth-pro/

Can anyone get anti-alised working with google-earth yet? I still have ugly fonts (readable but ugly).

hasufell commented on 2011-08-04 21:32 (UTC)

regarding the ugly fonts stuff I did 3 things 1. installed ttf-ms-fonts 2. installed sharpfonts (may not be necessary) 3. defined the correct DPI for my screen via xorg.conf (nvidia-driver did not correctly recognize DisplaySize, so DPI was not set properly) after doing nr3 the fonts were finally readable

@fowler I have had similar crash problems; I believe after upgrading some libraries. Removing the google-earth configuration files usually fix the issues. rm -rf ~/.googleearth/ ~/.config/Google/GoogleEarthPlus.conf

If you are seeing a bunch of black boxes instead of text, install the package ttf-ms-fonts from AUR. That alone solved the problem for me.

I followed the instructions but it didn't work. $ googleearth ERROR: ld.so: object 'libfreeimage.so.3' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. Google Earth has caught signal 11. We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed. This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal circumstances. A bug report and debugging data have been written to this text file: /home/rick/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-4dfa36f7.txt Please include this file if you submit a bug report to Google. Argh, fonts are really really ugly under kde 4.6. How can I fix this? I've read previous messages but I didn't find a solution. Thanks.
