Anyone know why I can't install this via aur, I've connected my github to the private epic games repo and connected my github to epic games account and added a ssh to github also, but the pamac still wont pick it up for reasons unknown....

I seem to run into an issue trying to run both GenerateProjectFiles.sh
and make
.
In both instances, the call to xbuild
fails due to 'missing OutputPath property'. Looked into the code and checked with a couple other users using unreal on linux (non-arch), this issue seems to only happen on my system with or without the aur PKGBUILD.
Is there some kind of global mono configuration which could prevent it from properly reading the OutputPath property? Modifying manually the call to xbuild
works, but that seems redundant

Compiled from source today, which worked pretty well. However, starting U4Editor fails miserably :/
First I ran into the same issue as acxz, which I fixed by chown -R
similar to the suggestion of Shatur. The initalization of the editor than proceeds until 75% where it freezes. Sadly, the log output is not helpful at all: LogEngine: Initializing Engine...
is the last one. No error.
EDIT: Just found the problem! It is caused by my VR headset, which seemingly fails to initialize and thus freezes the startup. Deactivating it solved the problem.

@in1t3r, yes :( The size is grows. You see warnings because the package contains libraries not only for Linux, but also for other OS that is not possible to strip.

Is it normal to actually have installed size of 40GB? I see in Wiki it says 28GB. Also striping libraries made many warnings.

@acxz, thanks I will add this to PKGBUILD. It seems that other users also changed the folder as I did. Unfortunately, I don’t know where to install the binary version.

@Shatur that seemed to do the trick! Thanks so much! Is there a way for that step to be done in the PKGBUILD so it doesn't affect other users?
Also, do you know if any unofficial repos have a binary build of this package? That would be much appreciated since this build takes forever, (took around 7 hours).

@acxz, could you also try this: chmod -R a+rwX /opt/unreal-engine/Engine
?

@juancarlospaco this is easily done on your own system, not in a PKGBUILD, given that building packages runs as root:
Permission issues like this are already mentioned on the UE Arch wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unreal_Engine_4#Installing_from_the_AUR
This is a user system problem; I already did what I could without needing users to do the above by giving the
777
permissions. If it still gives you trouble, you'll have to use the example to solve it or change the install location to somewhere you have user permissions by default (as I cannot do this for you).zerophase commented on 2021-05-27 08:15 (UTC) (edited on 2021-05-30 08:41 (UTC) by zerophase)
Will update to 5.0 when it is released.
