To install all versions of packettracer except 7.2.2, follow this guidelines: 1. Download the snapshot from this AUR. 2. Tar -zxf the packettracer.tar.gz snapshot (it creates the dir packettracer/ with the PKGBUILD on it). 3. Download the latest packettracer tarball from your Netacad account and copy it into the packettracer/ dir. 4. Create the package with the command makepkg (it creates a packettracer.pkg.tar.xz). 5. Install the package with either makepkg -i or sudo pacman -U packettracer.pkg.tar.xz.

Packettracer 7.2.2 are auto installable via run file, download it from netacad webpage and run it, you don't need this package.

I can't install it. It says that PacketTracer53_Fedora.tar.gz is not an URL. I've modified it PKGBUILD (but don't know if now it's correct – I don't know how to make PKGBUILD files): source=( 'http://cisco.netacad.net/cnams/resourcewindow/noncurr/downloadTools/app_files/PacketTracer53_Fedora.tar.gz' 'packettracer' 'linguist' ) and now it tells that md5sums are wrong for PacketTracer53_Fedora.tar.gz .

It doesn't work. I can't download it. It says that PacketTracer533_Generic_Fedora.tar.gz is not an URL. I've modified PKGBUILD source=( 'http://cisco.netacad.net/cnams/resourcewindow/noncurr/downloadTools/app_files/PacketTracer53_Fedora.tar.gz' 'packettracer' 'linguist' ) but it says md5sums are wrong for PacketTracer53_Fedora.tar.gz . I'm not pkgbuilder and I don't it this change was okey, but still I can't install packettracer (neither with packer, nor manually, neither with original PKGBUILD, nor with modified).

@mynis01, I emailed you. In short, I dunno what IPC and have never taken a SBA before. Without a test (SBA) file, I'm afraid there is much I can do.

mynis01 commented on 2012-03-03 22:47 (UTC)

Everything is working well except the ptaplayer plugin (used for taking practice SBAs). I can run the plugin manually if you use a file manager and go to /opt/pt/extensions/ptaplayer. If I attempt to open the test from a web browser I get "Message ID: XP-ERR-010". I also noticed that when I run the Cisco Packet Tracer Skills Assessment Environment Checker, it detects that packet tracer is installed to /opt/pt, and says that the IPC ports are available, but is unable to detect what version of packet tracer is installed.

The fonts wouldn't change at first, but then I installed ttf-ms-fonts 2.0-9 from the AUR. It worked after I rebooted. Thanks :)

Trying changing the font settings (Options->Preferences). My settings: CLI (Courier New 10), Headers (Verdana 10), Workspace (Verdana 10), Activity Wizard (Verdana 10), File Menu (Tahoma 10), Tab Switches (Verdana 10), Tooltips (Courier New 10), Button/Labels (Verdana 10).

Well it works, -had to --skipchecksums for my PacketTracer533_Generic_Fedora.tar.gz But it's truly horrible :/ see: http://troll.ws/i/a8D3qc.png And it certainly does crash with Arch's Qt if I comment out "LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/pt/lib". Isn't there some Qt that can be used to get a good result with this? Not sure if anything there can apply to Arch: http://sonniesedge.co.uk/2010/02/03/fuckin-ugly-fonts-on-ubuntu-version-of-packet-tracer/

Fixed. I had was checking for x86 instead of i686. doh!

I think you should add libpng12 as a dependency, because on my fresh-install arch, it made perfectly the package but packettracer could't start complaining about libpng12 not found. libpng is another AUR package. B.R.
