The "chaotic-aur" co-maintainer is a bot that pulls any merged PR in https://github.com/chaotic-aur/pkgbuild-proton-ge-custom-bin back to this package. So if you guys have contributions or bump versions earlier than the maintainer, please share them as PRs. The commits will keep your authorship.

Happy gaming!

@DestroyerX you are free to change this path in the PKGBUILD for your own builds of this package. https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/PKGBUILD?h=proton-ge-custom-stable-bin&id=a91ce5ba3a12e2ec55ba654fed20b5190116a5fa#n39

@kescherAUR Most systems are single user anyway so installing to $HOME would not matter.

@DestroyerX Yes. In general, packages are installing globally. No sane package is every going to install into your home directory. As soon as Valve fixes the issue, this package will be working again.

DestroyerXyz commented on 2020-11-26 08:47 (UTC)

@kescherAUR The issue says that installing globally doesn't work which is what I think this install script is doing.

kescherAUR commented on 2020-11-26 08:38 (UTC)

@DestroyerX No package should ever install into the $HOME directory.

Fun fact: Currently, Steam will not let you use this version if you install this package, due to the following Steam Runtime bug: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/issues/302

DestroyerXyz commented on 2020-11-26 08:36 (UTC)

Does the install script install to "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/compatibilitytools.d"?

kescherAUR commented on 2020-11-26 04:00 (UTC)

@miss_barfin I think this package should stay, since there's probably going to be another split between "latest" and "stable" versions.

RogueGirl commented on 2020-11-26 02:53 (UTC)

I think this package's job is done here the latest stable version is 5.21 and i think we should delete this package and move everything to proton-ge-custom-bin but I still want your opinions

There's a new version of proton-ge-custom btw.

If your startup fails with FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/share/steam/compatibilitytools.d/proton-ge-custom/dist/bin/wine' you might be lacking 32-bit libraries, so make sure you have the multilib repo enabled and reinstall the package.
