So, I made xdg-user-dirs optional as I believe it is only needed for foreign language path support. Unreal throws a warning message over it being missing, but the engine works fine without it. If anyone experiences crashes from not having xdg-user-dirs just let me know and I'll put it back.

It was needed to compile because of some functions returning values that were not used, so yes, please remove if it compiles without that now.

I'm working on getting some of our patches to upstream. Does anyone know why ignore-return-value-error.patch was needed?
It does this:
// suppress errors about ignoring return value of function
Result += " -Wno-unused-result";
Going to remove it if no one actually needs it.

@MirandaStreeter I'm working on getting an update out. Should be up in a couple days, when I finish debugging.

@Yosh See the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Unreal_Engine_4#Installing_from_the_AUR
@acerix @zerophase A new point release was merged into the branch last month: https://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/announcements-and-releases/1547816-unreal-engine-4-21-released?p=1558963#post1558963
It fixes quite a few bugs, so could we have this package updated?
In the meantime, I just updated my 'pkgver' and set all the checksums to 'skip', seeing if that will work for now. If not, I'll probably just wait for the maintainers.
Edit: Nope, looks like the patch files need to be adjusted? Not entirely sure, I suppose I'll have to wait.

How i can connect my github account to make this PKGBUILD working ?
lpanhirsch commented on 2018-11-25 17:06 (UTC) (edited on 2018-11-25 17:07 (UTC) by lpanhirsch)
@phcerdan Yes, this is expected, because it's a gigantic package. You could try disabling the compression by changing the following line in /etc/makepkg.conf:
PKGEXT='.pkg.tar.xz'
to
PKGEXT='.pkg.tar'
phcerdan commented on 2018-11-21 22:12 (UTC) (edited on 2018-11-21 23:01 (UTC) by phcerdan)
It takes more time to compress the package with xz
than to compile it. Is this the expected behavior?
Creating package "unreal-engine"...
-> Generating .PKGINFO file...
-> Generating .BUILDINFO file...
-> Adding install file...
-> Generating .MTREE file...
-> Compressing package...

I will try to use multi-thread xz, as showed here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/makepkg#Use_other_compression_algorithms

@ruestique Yeah, it's the Radeon causing the issues with Vulkan. Getting your hardware information to epic through a bug report might get the issue resolved.
It's probably a minor bug with Unreal that basically amounts to a branch not being programmed for.

@zerophase
You're on Arch
yep
and just run makepkg -sric
yeah, I also thinking about installing ue4 without pacman
opening unreal
with -vulkan flag, with -opengl works fine
vulkan-icd-loader and vulkan-radeon are installed, vc: HD 7950
@moadib yeah thanks mate =) I guess maybe I need some kernel tweaks ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@juancarlospaco this is easily done on your own system, not in a PKGBUILD, given that building packages runs as root:
Permission issues like this are already mentioned on the UE Arch wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unreal_Engine_4#Installing_from_the_AUR
This is a user system problem; I already did what I could without needing users to do the above by giving the
777
permissions. If it still gives you trouble, you'll have to use the example to solve it or change the install location to somewhere you have user permissions by default (as I cannot do this for you).zerophase commented on 2021-05-27 08:15 (UTC) (edited on 2021-05-30 08:41 (UTC) by zerophase)
Will update to 5.0 when it is released.
