I'm getting an error: "arial.ttf was not found in the build directory and is not a URL." Anyone else had this?

Nice one nbento! Works great with the fonts from my laptop up-to-date Windows 7 install. That one should be this package PKGBUILD!

wodim commented on 2012-02-04 17:12 (UTC)

This PKGBUILD works with the latest fonts (Windows 7 with all updates installed as of Feb 1) and includes Arial Black. http://pastebin.com/v8ZGUKZY

Here is a fully automatic script based on severach's work. Don't forget to update the first 2 variables. http://pastebin.com/EhBXJk6r

Arial Black and Andale Mono are in ttf-ms-fonts and not in ttf-win7-fonts. Installing ttf-win7-fonts removes conflicting package ttf-ms-fonts which removes these fonts causing formerly working web pages to display incorrectly. Lucidia Sans Unicode, Lucida Console, Microsoft Sans Serif, Palatino Linotype, Symbol, and Tahoma are popular and should be in a win-fonts package. Tahoma in Win7 is newer than in package ttf-tahoma. Until the packages are fixed the fonts can be added and removed manually with this manual procedure applicable to any interactive build. Remaining Win7 fonts are international or found in the ms-office-2007-fonts package and can be added if desired. Note: Arial Black in Windows 7 does not work in X. Use ariblk.ttf from ttf-ms-fonts. Note: AbiWord does not render Symbol properly. Symbol works fine in other GTK apps. Note: MS Gothic msgothic.ttc should be included but I couldn't get it to convert in Fontforge. Note: Arial Narrow fonts from ttf-office-2007-fonts enumerate inside Arial improperly and cannot be selected due to incorrect Style information. Remove from ttf-office-2007-fonts and use Arial Narrow from Win7 which enumerates as a separate font. See Bodoni MT for an example of many font styles enumerating properly. Note: In ttf-office-2007-fonts neither Segoe Chess SEGOECHESS.TTF nor Bookshelf Symbol 7 BSSYM7.TTF render properly. MS Outlook OUTLOOK.TTF has no purpose. These fonts should be removed. Note: Calibri (4), Cambria (3), Candara (4), Consolas (4), Constantia (4), Corbel (4) are duplicated between ttf-win7-fonts and ttf-office-2007-fonts. I remove them from ttf-office-2007-fonts. Note: Most GTK apps must be restarted to see newly installed fonts. Firefox immediately uses new fonts on page refresh. Note to package managers: ttf-office-2007-fonts and ttf-win7-fonts should be listed as "optional" in each others PKGBUILD so the a message pops up on install recommending the other #Use this procedure with ttf-ms-fonts, ttf-office-2007-fonts, ttf-google-webfonts, ttf-adobe-fonts, and other interactive build packages with the appropriate changes #Log out of root, log in as a user, cd to a folder where we can create folder: ttf-win7-fonts cd ~ # not as root, most remaining steps not as root yaourt -G ttf-win7-fonts # download the package build into folder of same, this build requires user assistance so -S writing to a /tmp folder makes this procedure unnecessarily difficult cd ttf-win7-fonts vi PKGBUILD # for instructions and to change font lists # ttf-win7-fonts: # All fonts already mentioned in PKGBUILD plus # Andale Mono (1) & Arial Black (1) from ttf-ms-fonts # Lucida Console (1) and Arial Narrow (4) from Win7 # the sed lines are constructed so that they can be run more than once without damage # add ttf-tahoma to provides= and conflicts= to make it uninstall sed -r -i "s,=\('ttf-vista-fonts' 'ttf-ms-fonts'\),=\('ttf-vista-fonts' 'ttf-ms-fonts' 'ttf-tahoma'\),g" PKGBUILD # fix the install line to install uppercase .TTF sed -r -i "s,644 \*.ttf \",644 \*.ttf \*.TTF \",g" PKGBUILD #Add fonts into sources in the src font listing 'andalemo.ttf' 'lucon.ttf' 'ariblk.ttf' 'l_10646.ttf' 'micross.ttf' 'palabi.ttf' 'palab.ttf' 'palai.ttf' 'pala.ttf' 'symbol.ttf' 'tahomabd.ttf' 'tahoma.ttf' 'ARIALNBI.TTF' 'ARIALNB.TTF' 'ARIALNI.TTF' 'ARIALN.TTF' #done here automatically sed -r -i "s,corbel.ttf' 'corbelb.ttf,corbel.ttf' 'andalemo.ttf' 'lucon.ttf' 'ariblk.ttf' 'l_10646.ttf' 'micross.ttf' 'palabi.ttf' 'palab.ttf' 'palai.ttf' 'pala.ttf' 'symbol.ttf' 'tahomabd.ttf' 'tahoma.ttf' 'ARIALNBI.TTF' 'ARIALNB.TTF' 'ARIALNI.TTF' 'ARIALN.TTF' 'corbelb.ttf,g" PKGBUILD #Copy fonts (74 files) from Windows 7, ariblk.ttf & andalemo.ttf (2 files) from ttf-ms-fonts, change Gabriola.ttf to lower case #It's OK to copy extra fonts. Windows Firefox matches correctly. Note: X does not render Lucidia Sans, Cambria, or Constantia with the same line widths as Windows. Note: X auto-bold code adds fuzzy pixels around fonts not available in bold: Arial Black, Impact, Andale Note: Firefox subs Monaco, Helvetica Neue, and Gill Sans incorrectly on Windows and Linux.

Can you add Arial Black (ariblk.ttf) to this package?

Oh I see it now but still can't figure out the right preset, neither look as good as legacy freetype or win7... also what should I do about 52-infinality.conf? There are also styles to choose from but not exactly the same as in infinality-settings.sh. Which preset/config you guys are using? [edit] it looks like it's firefox issue so I'll look at this later, but still I'm not sure about 52-infinality.conf - infinality-settings.sh - .fonts.conf cause system-wide fonts are not as good as they were before
