Most of the packages that “require” it are actually Electron apps that copy&pasted their dependency lists from elsewhere or failed to update them: Chromium (and subsequently Electron) haven’t been dependent on this for years.

If you want to help, you can ask the maintainers of all those apps if they really still need gconf.

None that I use still need it (spotify and hamsket-bin), and their maintainers removed the superfluous dependency.

If you got build issues, please make sure

  1. base-devel group is installed [1]
  2. you are not using a broken AUR helper like pacaur. See https://github.com/E5ten/pacaur/issues/14.

If the build is still not working, use clean chroots [2] to build it.

@SebVdk: those packages are already listed in makedepends. You may want to check if makepkg on your system is broken.

I've got some trouble upgrading this package. It only required by gksudo on my system. Here's the errors (during building):

xsltproc -nonet http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl gsettings-schema-convert.xml I/O error : Attempt to load network entity http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl" cannot parse http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/manpages/docbook.xsl make[2]: [Makefile:998: gsettings-schema-convert.1] Error 4 make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/nando/.cache/yay/gconf/src/gconf/gsettings' make[1]: [Makefile:584: all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/nando/.cache/yay/gconf/src/gconf' make: *** [Makefile:468: all] Error 2 ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Only thing I have that depends on it is minecraft-launcher but the 'required by' list does seem rather long for an aur reject. It is a matter of maintainers though

TsuDragon69, gconf was actually deprecated years ago. Its last release was 22nd January, 2013. It's been superseded by GSettings and dconf.

Apps that are still being actively maintained should really have lost the dependency by now...

Wait, How are GNOME application settings handled now?

Hi @l4tt3, you need to install the base-devel group before building packages.
